According to sources, Prime Minister Imran Khan is also unhappy with the T20 national team. He also instructed the PCB chairman to make the necessary changes to the squad.
Rameez Raja has asked for time to complete the first round of the National T20 Cup, which ends on October 3. The deadline to bring the final squad to the ICCT20 World Cup is October 10.
T20 national team players Azam Khan, Khushdal Shah, Mohammad Nawaz, Mohammad Hasnain, and Sohaib Maqsood have yet to show significant performance in the National T20 Cup due to intense criticism.
Azam Khan got 35 runs in three matches, Sohaib Maqsood 42 runs, Khushda Shah also scored just 51 runs in three innings and spinners Mohammad Nawaz and Mohammad Hasnain took wickets. only two each.
Sources say, Fakhr Zaman, Sharjeel Khan, Shahnawaz Dahani, and Usman Qadir may be given a chance in their place.
Following the Prime Minister’s intervention, veterans Shoib Malik and Sarfraz Ahmed are also expected to join the party. Former national team captain and wicketkeeper Sarfraz Ahmed did well in the National T20 Cup as his captain took Sindh’s side to the top spot.
According to sources, PCB chairman Rameez Raja will soon meet with the selection committee to discuss changes needed to the World Cup squad.
