Firdous Ashiq awan slapped Qadir Mandokhel in live show. Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader Firdous Ashiq Awan is not a new topic of discussion on news and social media and is known for her blunt response to her opponents.
However, something similar happened when he slapped PPP leader Qadir Mandokhel on a prime time show on a private Pakistani channel after a verbal altercation.
Shortly after the show aired, short clips began circulating on social media, and while users condemned the controversy, some made sarcastic comments and made memes
What happened in the show?
The talk show, which aired Wednesday night, began with a power outage and eventually led to a train crash
Firdous Ashiq Awan criticized the Sindh Chief Minister for not going to the accident site, while Qadir Mandokhel said that even the Federal Minister for Railways did not arrive. After that, the two continued to call each other’s governments ‘corrupt‘.
However, the matter escalated when Qadir Mandokhel personally called Firdous Ashiq Awan ‘corrupt’ after the government and taunted him that the ministry was taken away from him due to corruption.
After that, the two leaders exchanged bitter words and Firdous Ashiq Awan turned to Javed Chaudhry, the host of the show, who was silently watching the scene, “Mr. Chaudhry, you have put on this show.”
In the viral clip, it can be seen that Qadir Mando Khel says something on which Firdous Ashiq Awan Sikh finds. Then they both get up from their seats.
This is followed by bitter words between the two leaders and then a beep which indicates that vulgar words were used on this occasion.
Reaction of firdous ashiq awan on social media after incident
Reacting on social media after the incident, Firdous Ashiq Awan said: ‘During the talk show, threats were made to PPP’s Qadir Mandokhel. Qadir Mandokhel insulted my late father and me by using abusive language. I had to take extreme steps in my defense! After consulting the legal team, legal action will be taken against Qadir Mandokhel.
Since only Firdous Ashiq Awan was seen showing intolerance in this clip, the PTI leader said that this is just one side of the picture.
He further said on Twitter, “Javed Chaudhry’s TV show is showing a side of the picture in the discussion with PPP’s Qadir Mandokhel.” Qadir Mandokhel’s foul language and insults are being made one-sided propaganda by not making it a part of this video.
He said that apart from political dialogue, Mandokhel had insulted his father and him.
“Such rude people have nothing to do with politics and ethics,” he said. These people are ugly spots on the face of politics and society.
He requested Express TV to release a full video of the case.
Qadir Mandokhel’s reaction
PPP leader Qadir Mandokhel told the BBC that he had been told that Firdous Ashiq Awan would not allow anyone to speak in front of her, but this was the first time he had joined a talk show with her.
According to him, he did not say anything that would make Firdous angry.
“She kept talking for half an hour. I was silent, but when I started talking, she started interrupting me. What are you going to say? You are immersed in corruption from head to toe, in which I told her you are corrupt.” ۔ Your government fired you for corruption. Then she came to ‘Galm Gluch‘(abusive language).
Qadir Mandokhel said, “I was enduring Galum Gluch, so he came down on my hands, grabbed my collar and tried to slap me.” Then he tried to hit me with a cup. I was trying to escape and they ran after me so I closed the door and saved my life.“
“My training is not such that I can raise my hand against a woman,” he added. I never imagined she would do such a thing. “
In response to the threat of legal action against him, the PPP leader said, ‘Most welcome! I am a Supreme Court lawyer myself, I have done PhD in Media Laws, I am the first recipient of Pakistan’s Human Rights Award. I have a spotless past. “If they want to take legal action, they will not only be defeated, but they will be punished when I take action.
Reaction of people on social media
On the one hand, action-packed memes of Firdous Ashiq Awan are circulating on social media, while there are heaps of condemnatory and supportive comments. Opponents have accused her of taking unfair advantage of being a woman, while her supporters say it is important for women to respond harshly to abusers.
One user, Karan Jahangir, tagged Firdous Ashiq Awan and said, “You did a good job. These men use vulgar and obscene language to silence women“.
Some people think that PTI leaders cannot tolerate criticism and opposition.
Osama Khilji says that “the whole position of PTI members is based on accusing others of corruption but if anyone does the same thing with them, they are slapped on television”.
Many people think that this could have been prevented.
Usman Sarfraz Malik, a user, said, “It’s all the fault of Javed Chaudhry, the host of the show, because he was watching the conversation turn sour, but he just kept watching.“
One user tweeted photos of the show’s host, writing, “There was only one person enjoying the whole story, who didn’t even try to stop the fight.“
Many consumers saw the situation as a sign of the ongoing heat wave in the country
What should the show host have done?
While the two politicians were making bitter remarks, the host of the program, Javed Chaudhry, first watched them in silence and then tried to interrupt them from time to time. For the most part, however, they watched the fight as a picture of helplessness.
In this regard, senior journalist Mubashir Zaidi said, “Since most of the anchors talk about meaningless political issues on a daily basis and avoid discussing social issues related to the people, incidents like bitter rhetoric between Firdous Ashiq Awan and Qadir Mandokhel are presented.”
Senior female journalist and anchor person Naseem Zehra said that as far as journalistic values are concerned, it is the responsibility of the anchor to not allow the matter to reach this stage.
He said, “When I speak, I have made strict rules. As soon as I think you start me, even the words go wrong.” If the accent is wrong, I will strictly stop it.
He said, “The channel and the program team want the ratings of the show to be good. Often there is talk of letting go for a while.” But those who work with me think that such a thing cannot be allowed to happen just for the sake of rating.
“We know how angry people act, but there are other ways to expose them. It’s not all right in my view,” he added.
Naseem Zehra said, “In my view, it is very clear that all this is our responsibility. Anchors are the pilots of people’s thinking. You are piloting people’s thinking and feeling‘.
“It’s one hundred percent the anchor’s responsibility to stop you.“
Senior journalist M Zia-ud-Din also seemed to agree. “It’s the anchor’s job to manage the program, but it’s usually seen that when you invite two opponents to the program, the anchor tries to get them to fight,” he told the BBC. The reason is that it increases the rating of the program, the (fight) clip goes viral. ‘
Ziauddin said, “People here think that if your clip has gone viral, it is the best performance.“
He further said that the standard procedure is that in case of any crisis, the anchor person immediately signals to the cameraman and they immediately stop him. In general, this should be stopped until the crisis is over. Because it’s (medium) visual, it all becomes a scene. It violates all ethical standards of journalistic organizations. ‘
According to him, the anchor should have stopped the program immediately. He would signal the cameraman to turn it off.
According to M. Zia-ud-Din, “If people have less understanding of political or important issues, then the scenes of conflicts become more popular here.“
Anchor person javed chaudhry
Speaking to the BBC on the issue, Javed Chaudhry, the anchor person of the program, said that such a bitter conversation takes place in almost every program, but the hand-wringing was unexpected for him as well.
“The fight took place in the first break of the program, after which two more episodes aired,” he said. We stopped all this and continued the program.“
Javed Chaudhry said, “Talk shows mean that people talk to each other. This is not a silent show. When the participants are four or five, there will be conversation and bitter talk. That’s what happens all over the world. “
“It’s usually on talk shows, but people stop at breaks,” he said. We also took a break but they kept fighting at intervals. However, we managed to control the situation and schedule the rest on time.
Javed Chaudhry said that no anchor has a way of measuring when a participant will get up and start being rude. “Every human being seems normal until there is no disrespect, crime or sin.”
Regarding the warning of such participants, Javed Chaudhry said, “No, it is not possible to give a warning.” These people are nominated by political parties. We can’t turn anyone on or off. This decision is to be made by the political parties and the government of Pakistan.
