FBR releases Active Tax List for 2020 tax year. The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) on Monday released a list of over 2.1 million income tax returns of active taxpayers for taxpayers 2020 as of March 1, 2021.
Income tax return for the 2020 tax year has now risen to 2.62 million compared to 2.43 million last year, indicating an increase of 8%.However, the updated ATL contains data from more than 2.1 million taxpayers as the rest have not paid the late filing charge. Must be on latest ATL.
The list of active taxpayers of Azad Jammu and Kashmir should be treated at par with ATL (Income Tax) after amendment of Income Tax Ordinance 2001 through Finance Act 2018.
Earlier, the FBR’s List of Active Taxpayers (ATL) was linked with the Income Tax Return for the tax year 2019. The Active Taxpayer List (ATL) is a central record of those filing online income tax returns for the previous tax year. ATL is published on March 1 of each fiscal year and is valid until the last day of February of the next fiscal year.
A person can enjoy many benefits on ATL. They are not subject to estrictions on cash withdrawals, other banking transactions, payment of fees to educational institutions, etc. Similarly, for such persons, imports, dividends, taxes on goods, services and contracts, profits on loans, prizes and winnings, purchase of motor vehicles, purchase and sale of an asset, etc., are withheld at a reduced rate.
The ATL will include those who have filed income tax returns for the tax year 2020 for the due dates or dates extended by the concerned Commissioner of Inland Revenue. Subsequently, the ATL will be updated weekly on every Sunday at 2400 hours.
Available on the ATL FBR website as well as on the Tax Easy app. Individuals can also check their ATL status by typing “ATL (Location) 13 digit Computerized National Identity Card (CNIC)” and send it to 9966. To check the ATL status of an AOP or company, you must enter “ATL (location) 7 digit National Tax Number (NTN)” and send it to 9966.
